Judith in brief
As MSc Optometrist having a wealth of experience. Having worked in the commercial and educational sector in The Netherlands, scientific research in the UK and developmental aid work throughout Asia and the Pacific. Whilst working with aid organisations it became apparent to her the need for better communication within developmental aid field, to increase access to services and widen the scope for funding opportunities. Hence she decided to establish Foundation Communicaid.

Various positions: being assistant teacher at the Technical University of Utrecht, supporting trainees in their pre-registration year, giving lectures for the Royal Netherlands Air force to flight surgeons and medical staff, organising workshops for local eye nurses in Asia and Pacific.

During her position at the Royal Dutch Air force (RNLAF) she has carried out several research projects in cooperation with the RNLAF, the City University of London and TNO Human factors, a Dutch applied research centre.

“Participating in the aero medical examination was challenging due to requirement of the different aspects of my profession.”
Besides consulting her own patients at the Ophthalmic Department of the Central Military Hospital, as part of Ministry of Defence, Judith worked at the Centre of Human and Aviation of the Royal Netherlands Air force (RNLAF). Where she was responsible for the eye examination of the aero medical examination of military aircrew.

Whilst working with aid organisations it became apparent to her the need for better communication within developmental aid field, to increase access to services and widen the scope for funding opportunities. Hence she decided to establish Foundation Communicaid.
Consultant Optometry
Asia/ Pacific, 2005- “Teaching plays a major part in my career, as it is my passion motivating and encouraging people.”
Through developmental aid work in Cambodia her interest to broaden her experience in Clinical Optometry in the world has grown. Since 2005 she has been working as consultant and lecturer with various organisations in Asia/ Pacific in order to help the local eye specialists in their prevention of blindness. “On the flight back home after my first field program in Cambodia in 2005 I left with a broken heart: the country, the people but above all the way I could help the locals with my knowledge and experience. I promised myself next time I travel it will be one way!””
Developmental aid work
In January 2006 Judith terminated her work in The Netherlands and became fully involved with developmental aid work. Since then she and her partner, Mark van Luyk, work and live globally.

Foundation Communicaid, a foundation for foundations- worldwide, provides aid organisations the tools to promote themselves more effectively.
In close partnership the foundation works with small community based aid organisations to develop and produce a tailored communication strategy; whilst maintaining the organisation’s integrity.Judith’s latest personal column about her life as founder, chairperson and member of Team Worldwide of Foundation Communicaid. “When we left The Netherlands in 2006, we knew we wouldn’t be travelling only for its experience.
